Macadamia Nuts
Hawaiian macadamia nuts lightly roasted and salted to perfection. ย Grown on the Big Island of Hawaii. These tasty mac nuts are carefully roasted at a small family candy producer. Packed in a four ounce package. Whole and half macadamia nuts are easier to eat and filled with flavor. Most producers sell bags and cans of parts and pieces. Whole or half mac nuts are less common after shelling and roasting. But the whole or half nut looks better when served at a party or shared. And they pack more flavor than the broken pieces.
In addition to whole nuts we offer chocolate covered, crisps and cookies made with local mac nuts. Macadamia nut gifts are one of our most popular.
Macadamia nuts thrive in the Hawaiian climate and produce rich and flavorful nuts. ย These make a wonderful snack on their own or as part of a Hawaiian gift basket.
Though strongly identified with Hawaii macadamia nut trees were brought from their native Australia in the early 1800’s. They are also grown in California and other worldwide, temperate locations. The name is derived from a Scottish born Australian scientist named John Macadam.
The trees can grow up to 40 feet tall. Macadamia seeds or nut must be dried before opening. They must be dry enough to rattle inside the shell when shaken or dropped. They are then cracked by machine and sent to roasters. They can be eaten raw but are much better roasted. Many farms and small processors off tours for visitors. Some even include a B&B so you can get the full orchard experience.
The nut is fattier than most other nuts though they contain several nutrients. They are low in sugars.
Mac nuts are toxic to dogs if eaten so careful around your pets!
